Marilyn Charlotte Doolittle, 85, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Compassionate Care Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in Hamilton.
Born in Trenton, February 5, 1932, Marilyn had been a life-long resident of Mercerville since 1957 and was a parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Sorrows-Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church.
She attended Blessed Sacrament School, and was a 1949 graduate of Cathedral High School. She graduated from Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1952 and became a Registered Nurse. She followed a career in nursing for the next 53 years; retiring from Capital Health (Helene Fuld) in 2006.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Harry Leigh, Frances (Newell) Leigh, stepfather, Frank Mazzacco, Sr. and stepbrother Frank Mazzacco, Jr.
Married to Robert E. Doolittle in 1953, they celebrated 40 years of marriage before his death in September 1993.
Marilyn is survived by her loving sons, Robert Michael and William Harry, and daughter-in-law, Megan (Towne) of Hamilton. She was immeasurably proud of her three granddaughters; twins, Rachel Marie and Rebecca Charlotte, and Bridget Katherine. Her granddaughters have followed her footsteps into medical-related careers.
She is also survived by friend and sister-in-law Myrna Doolittle, many nieces and nephews, special friends and neighbors, and devoted companion Felix Ricco.
Marilyn was bestowed a New Jersey PTA Honorary Life Membership award and was past president of Mercerville PTA, Nottingham Middle School PTA and was a member of the PTA Past Presidents Group and Mercer County Council of PTAs. She was an active member of Woodmen of the World, annually presenting the American History award and American Flags to multiple Hamilton Township schools and firehouses. Marilyn joyfully volunteered her time to the Widows and Widowers organization, Serra Club and the Rosary Altar Society.
Marilyn formed many wonderful friendships over the past 23 years at the Hamilton Area YMCA.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton, New Jersey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows-Saint Anthony Parish, 3816 East State Street Extension, Hamilton, New Jersey.
Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hamilton.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home.
