Christian J. Walter, Jr., 93, of Hamilton Square, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on February 19, 2019.
Born at home in Allentown, NJ, Christian was a longtime resident of Hamilton Square. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, having proudly served aboard the USS Benevolence and USS Piedmont as a member of the United States Navy. Chris worked at Scammell China Company in Trenton before leaving to serve his country. Upon discharge from the service he worked as an Industrial Mechanic at Acme-Hamilton for 32 years. Chris then worked for Al Haines Contractors from 1979 until his retirement at age 63 in 1988.
Chris was known as ‘Uncle Bud’ by his family, having been nick-named ‘Buddy’ as a baby. In his younger years he was an active outdoorsman and a member of the Colonial Sportsman Club in Harbourton, NJ. He was a member of VFW Post 7298 of Ewing, NJ. Chris was an avid woodworker and gardener, having shared many of his woodworking projects with family and friends, and his vegetable garden with neighbors.
Husband of the late Anna Mae Walter; he is predeceased by his brothers, Robert K. Walter and Harold W. Walter; he is survived by his sister, Dorothy Walter Reed of Lansdale, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Having had no children of his own, he is also survived by Gail and Don Jennings and their sons, Andrew, David and Christopher Jennings and families, whom he considered his adopted family and who lovingly cared for him until his passing. Their family respectfully called him ‘Mr. Chris’.
Cremation was private under the direction of Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
Military honors and interment will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, North Hanover, NJ.
