Gerald “Jerry” T. Herrera, Sr., 83, of Hamilton, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
Born in Trenton, Jerry was a lifelong area resident and parishioner of St. Raphael RC Church. He was employed as the Director of Planning and Engineering for the Township of Hamilton until his retirement. One of his passions in life was softball. He pitched for Mercer County men’s fastpitch leagues for over 30 years and taught many girls throughout the years. His dedication led to his induction into the Mercer County Softball Hall of Fame. Jerry lived for his grandkids and will be deeply missed by all of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Joan (Cook) Herrera; his parents, Dionisio and Jennie (Russo) Herrera; his brothers, Dick, Bob, Dan and Lou Herrera; his nephews, Tom, Hondo and Steve; his niece, Lisa; and his sisters-in-law, Tracy and Dot; he is survived by his daughter, Maryann Mannen and husband, Bryce; his son, Jerry Herrera, Jr. and wife, Dana; his grandchildren, Isabella and Marcello; his brothers, Frank, Tony and wife, Cherry, and Tito Herrera; his sister, Amelia Kuzemka and husband, Paul; his sisters-in-law, Emily and Ann as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the hundreds of girls that he taught.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Raphael RC Church, 3500 South Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ.
Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hamilton.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home.
