John A. “Jack” Yake, 93, of West Windsor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Arcadia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hamilton.
Born in Trenton, Jack was a lifelong area resident. He attended Trenton Catholic High School and then served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged. Jack worked at General Motors and attended Rider University at night. He then went on to work with his family business, Yake Builders. Jack later worked as a carpenter in the physical plant at Princeton University. He also was a part time bartender at the Rocky Hill Inn.
Jack was a longtime parishioner of St. Gregory the Great RC Church in Hamilton Square. He was a fireman with the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company. He was an avid gardener, a NY Yankees fan and enjoyed weekend fishing at the shore. In his retirement years he enjoyed golfing and traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Margaret (McGuire) Yake; his siblings; his son, David M. Yake; and his beloved wife, Evelyn B. Yake; he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Beth Ann Yake; his grandchildren, Meghan, Sarah, Thomas and Michael; his daughter-in-law, Kim Yake; as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great RC Church, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ 08690.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamilton.
