Michael "Mike" Kearns, Sr. 79, of Yardville, died Saturday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton, Hamilton, NJ.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong Hamilton Township resident. Mike was a graduate of Princeton University, Class of 1951 with a B.A. in Engineering. He was employed with the Trenton Board of Education for 30 years as a Math Teacher at Trenton Central High School before his retirement.
Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of St. Vincent de Paul RC Church. He was the Captain of the Princeton University Basketball Team and briefly played for the Philadelphia Warriors Professional Team. He was an avid golfer, member of Miry Run Golf Course, loved to play in tournaments and to travel to different courses. He cherished annual trips with his family to the Jersey Shore.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Edward "Teddy" and Agnes Kearns, his brother Edward "Ted" Kearns, Jr. and his sister Janet Kearns.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Bronson) Kearns of Yardville, his daughter, Cynthia Sutton; his 2 sons, Michael, Jr. and his wife Tammy and Edward "Ted" Kearns; his 2 brothers and their wives, Robert and Shirley and Ronald and Gail Kearns; and his 3 grandchildren, Sarah, Joseph, and Emily.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church, Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville, NJ.
Entombment will follow in Princeton Memorial Park Mausoleum, Robbinsville, NJ.
Relatives and friends may call from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
