Jacob J. Genovay, Jr., 89 of Hamilton, died peacefully with his wife by his side on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Capital Health at Fuld, Trenton, NJ.

Born in Hamilton, Mr. Genovay was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Hamilton High School. He was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany during the Korean War and attained the rank of Corporal. Mr.
Genovay was employed with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #9 as a Journeyman plumber and retired as Foreman after 26 years of service. He was later employed as the First Assistant Secretary with the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association.

Mr. Genovay dedicated a lifetime of commitment and service in firefighting in Hamilton Township and Mercer County and is widely recognized for his leadership in fire service throughout the State of New Jersey. A former member of Enterprise Volunteer Fire Company, Mr. Genovay was a Junior Member in 1944, elected to active membership in 1948, attained exempt member status in 1964 and was granted lifetime membership status in 1970. He held several offices over the years for Hamilton Township Fire District #4 including President, Secretary, Trustee as well as every line officer position, and was an Elected Commissioner from 1965 until his retirement in 2009.

He was a life member, Past President and Past Assistant Secretary of the Mercer County Fireman’s Association and served as the life member Delegate representing Enterprise Volunteer Fire Company. He was a Charter member of the New Jersey State Association of Fire Districts where he held various offices spanning from 1983 until 2010 and served on the Steering and Organization Committee. Mr. Genovay served on the State Fire Safety Commission, it’s Master Planning and Research Council, and was appointed by the Governor to represent the New Jersey Fire Districts Association. He held offices of President, Vice President and Secretary for the Hamilton Firemen’s Relief Association and attained life member status in 1967 with the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association where he also held various offices from 1985 until present.

Mr. Genovay was President for ten years for the Enterprise Civic Association, was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony’s Parish and a member of the Lacey BPO Elks Lodge since 1980. In addition to being a licensed plumber, Mr. Genovay was a skilled carpenter and electrician who built his home with his wife by his side. He enjoyed helping others and will be truly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.

Son of the late, Jacob and Eva (Benz) Genovay and brother of the late, Frank, Anne and Anthony; he is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Grace C. (Potts) Genovay; his two sons, Jacob J., III and his wife, Patrizia A. Zita, of Solebury and Joseph D. of Hamilton; his four grandchildren, Alison Rose and Connor Flynn Genovay and Julia Zita and Laura Zita Genovay.

Funeral Services will begin on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3816 East State Street Ext., Hamilton, NJ 08619.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the Enterprise Fire Company offering a Firemen’s Service at 8:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home.
