Hazel Burton McConnaughey, 83, of Fieldsboro, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Arcadia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hamilton.
Born in Anniston, Alabama, Hazel has resided in Fieldsboro for the past 25 years. Prior to that she lived in Detroit, Michigan before settling in Portsmouth, NH where she raised her family. Hazel earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for decades employed by the United States Air Force, Portsmouth Hospital and eventually Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington when she moved to New Jersey.
Hazel was a loving mother who will be deeply missed and remembered for her love of helping others, gardening, playing bingo, browsing local yard sales and Columbus Market and socializing with her neighbors in Fieldsboro.
Predeceased by her parents, Richard S. Burton and Lulee Ikner; she leaves behind her beloved children, George H. McConnaughey, II of Portsmouth, NH and Carol McConnaughey of Los Angeles, CA; her siblings, Virginia Baker, Sidney Ivey, Calvin Burton and family members, Ruby Spellman; and many nieces and nephews across the country. Hazel has a loving group of friends including her longtime caregivers Audrey Laing, Kina Christian and Mary Ann Trainor.
A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
