Lina Chiste died peacefully at age 98. Her husband, M. Louis Chiste, predeceased her in 1990, as did her beautiful grandson, Peter, in 2000. Mrs. Chiste is survived by her four sons, Ronald, Robert, Raymond, and Peter; a sister, Inez Christie; her daughters-in-law; Michele Chiste and Barbara Chiste; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was one of seven children of Matteo and Maria Povinelli of West New York, NJ. Lina was very proud of her large family and also of her Tyrolian roots in the Dolomite Mountains of Northern Italy. In addition to being an avid reader, she and her husband traveled extensively during their retirement years. Her fondest times were preparing for and hosting family gatherings with her children and siblings. Her smile and her fabulous cooking are things people will always remember about her. She had empathy toward all people and was frequently consulted for advice and guidance by friends as well as family members. Her life was clearly exemplary and representative of one from the greatest generation. Though she has had a full and wonderful life, and has earned her place in eternity, her wit, caring and kindness will be so missed by those who are still here to remember her.
